Sierra Abler of Innovative Leadership on Empowering Educators and Redefining Work-Life Balance

Sierra Abler is the Founder and CEO of Innovative Leadership, a professional development organization dedicated to helping educators build confidence, strengthen leadership skills, and better navigate student behavior in the classroom. A former elementary school teacher, Sierra created her business after recognizing a critical gap in support for educators themselves, not just their students. Today, alongside being a mom, grad student, and podcast host, she is on a mission to equip teachers with the tools they need to thrive both professionally and personally.

Please share a brief introduction and your business:

Hello! I am a farmer/rancher wife, mom of two (almost three) boys, a grad student pursuing my Ed.D., a soon-to-be certified personal trainer and nutrition coach, the voice behind the Confidence Compass Podcast, and the founder of Innovative Leadership!

Innovative Leadership is a professional development organization that strives to help educators feel confident in themselves when working with the student misbehavior within their classroom(s). We work in a mentorship-based way to help educators gain leadership skills to decrease student misbehavior, lower teacher turnover rates, and increase teacher confidence.

Are you a mamaprenista?

I think the most important thing is to find what works best for YOU and your family. If your hours aren't the "normal" 9-5, that's okay. If you work on the weekends between activities, that's okay. If you don't put in any hours one day because you are focusing on being present for your family, that's okay. Find the balance you need to be the best mom your kids need from you during this phase of life.

Take us back to when you launched? What was your marketing strategy?

I began my business in January 2025, but it wasn't until November 2025 that I began to push for my name to be heard. Since then, I have joined different communities, started my own podcast, reached out to hundreds of schools and thousands of educators, and posted on numerous social media platforms. Through my marketing, I strive to remain genuinely myself - which means not all my marketing revolves around Innovative Leadership.

Did you always know you wanted to be an entrepreneur?

I have always been one to step out of my comfort zone and try new things, but I never knew that I would end up as an entrepreneur. This journey has been a roller coaster filled with unknowns, but it has taught me more than I could have ever imagined.

What accomplishments are you the most proud of to date in your business?

I began the process of graduate school, which led to where I am today, just two months after my first son was born. I am most proud of myself for never giving up on myself or my dream of helping educators in a bigger way. I truly believe that as a mom, it is my job to show my kids the importance of chasing their dreams and that hard work and dedication can help anyone reach their goals if they are willing to do the hard things.

What is one thing you wish you had known when you started your Entreprenista journey?

How life changing Entreprenista would be in such a short amount of time. The women are beyond supportive, and they are willing to connect you to other women who will help you reach further goals you have for yourself and your organization.

What did you do before starting your own business?

I am a former elementary education teacher that taught in the second and third grade general education classroom(s).

What made you take the leap to start your own business?

As a teacher, I saw the lack of professional development opportunities teachers have that help THEM. So many opportunities revolve around the students, which is very important, but there was never a program that helped me as an educator. I wanted to change that.

Do you have any recent wins?

I have begun so many different things and put in so many hours to get to where I am today, and for that I am proud. I continue to prioritize my boys, which is the most important part of it all.

Who are your customers?

Anyone in the field of education! Administrators, veteran teachers, first-year teachers, paraprofessionals - anyone!

What's your top productivity tip?

If you are going to scroll through different apps late at night, be sure to like, comment, and reach out to people whose content you appreciate and are interested in. You will build relationships and potential collaborations with people you never would have before.

Schedule as many posts as possible. Instead of working day-to-day to keep yourself accountable on posting, schedule as many in advance so that you can continue improving in other ways.

What's your favorite business tool?

I have come to love the option of scheduling out posts on various platforms. The scheduling happens primarily late at night or during nap times, which allows for me to still be accomplishing things for my business while still physically relaxing my body.

What's your approach to work-life balance?

My balance looks a little different than what the "normal" balance for being an entrepreneur seems to look like. There are times when I have important meetings late at night or early in the morning so that I am able to spend the day being fully present with my sons. Many of my work hours happen during nap times, in the vehicle when waiting for different activities to finish up, in the field as I wait to help my husband, and during the times when everyone else in the house is asleep at night. The hours are not "normal", but they work for me right now. I think it is incredibly important to find the balance that works for each person and their organization - not what society deems as "normal".

How do you avoid burn-out?

I have to be extremely open to my husband about needing time to myself when it is necessary. Open communication has been a huge blessing, and he has always been supportive and helpful in any way I need it.

I also find small ways to enjoy the everyday chaos. For example, instead of looking at a walk with my boys as a negative thing of not having "me" time, I look at it as an opportunity to show them the importance of making healthy choices and for spending time with them that I won't ever get back.

What advice do you have for aspiring Entreprenistas?

Take the risk of joining the community. If you have/had a daughter wouldn't you want her to also be a part of a community that wants to see her succeed? We should do the same for ourselves.
