Sandy Davis of Elevate Operations Advisory on Building Scalable Systems That Support Sustainable Growth

Sandy Davis is the Founder of Elevate Operations Advisory, where she helps founders of small to mid-sized businesses scale without the growing pains that often come with success. With over 20 years of experience in operations and HR, Sandy brings deep expertise in building systems, streamlining workflows, and strengthening team performance. After years of working behind the scenes in high-demand environments, she made the decision to step into entrepreneurship and create a business that turns complexity into clarity and growth into something sustainable.

Please share a brief introduction and your business:

I’m Sandy Davis, an operations leader with over 20 years of experience who decided it was time to build my own door of opportunity. I founded Elevate Operations Advisory to help founders of small and mid-sized companies scale without the “growth pains” that often follow success - burnout, bottlenecks, and unclear processes.

At Elevate, we focus on transforming internal systems, strengthening workflows, and elevating team performance. My goal is to take the quiet resilience I’ve seen in so many leaders and turn it into something sustainable, structured, and ultimately a win for both the business and the people behind it.

Do you have a co-founder?

I don’t have a co-founder. Elevate is something I chose to build independently.

That said, I strongly believe in building a circle of trusted advisors, collaborators, and partners. You don’t have to do business alone, even if you’re the sole founder.

My biggest tip: whether it’s a co-founder or a collaborator, alignment in values, communication style, and expectations matters just as much, if not more, than skill set.

Are you a mamaprenista?

I’m not a Mamaprenista, but I have a deep respect for women who are building businesses while raising families.

From my experience leading teams and managing high-demand environments, the same principle applies: structure creates sustainability. Having clear priorities, boundaries, and support systems in place is what allows you to show up fully both in business and in life.

Take us back to when you launched? What was your marketing strategy?

When I first launched Elevate, my strategy was simple: start conversations, build relationships, and show up consistently.

I leaned heavily into LinkedIn, founder communities, and yes… I “DM’d and emailed for dollars!” I reached out, introduced myself, and focused on creating genuine conversations rather than waiting for opportunities to come to me.

It didn’t go perfectly and it still doesn’t. I’m constantly refining my approach, but what I’ve learned is that consistency, authenticity, and being willing to put yourself out there matter far more than having the perfect plan.

I’m still building, still learning, and still showing up every day. And if I could give one piece of advice it’s this: don’t wait until everything is polished to start. The clarity comes from doing.

Did you always know you wanted to be an entrepreneur?

Not at all. I’ve always been the person behind the scenes; the operator, the problem solver, the one making things run smoothly.

But looking back, I’ve always been a builder. Even within large organizations, I was creating SOPs, onboarding frameworks, and training programs from the ground up. I didn’t always have the title “entrepreneur,” but I’ve always had the spirit of one.

Entrepreneurship found me at a time when I needed to trust myself in a new way. Transitioning to Elevate was the moment I decided to stop building someone else’s house and finally build my own.

Now, I see it as a natural extension of what I’ve always done, just with more ownership, purpose, and intention.

What accomplishments are you the most proud of to date in your business?

Honestly, I’m most proud that I started!

There was a moment where everything felt uncertain, personally and professionally and instead of waiting for the “perfect” next step, I chose to build something of my own. Elevate became that door of opportunity I needed, not just for myself, but for the founders I now support.

At the same time, my greatest accomplishment has been translating that “big-firm” operational wisdom into a lifeline for small and mid-sized founders. Watching a client move from the exhaustion of a scaling gap to the clarity of a streamlined, proactive business is more rewarding than any corporate accolade I’ve ever received.

Every conversation, every proposal, every transformation in motion, that’s what I’m proud of!

What is one thing you wish you had known when you started your Entreprenista journey?

You don’t need to have everything figured out to start...you just need to start!

I spent a lot of time making sure everything looked right before putting myself out there. What I’ve learned is that clarity comes from action, not perfection.

Also, your experience already holds value. You don’t need to over-explain it or prove it, just stand in it. The right people will recognize it.

When hiring, what is your go-to interview question?

I always ask: “Tell me about a time you had to figure something out without clear direction. What did you do?”

I’m less interested in perfect answers and more interested in how someone thinks, adapts, and takes ownership. Skills can be taught, but mindset and a commitment to operational excellence is what drives long-term success.

I also believe in hiring for alignment, not just skill. And before you even post a role, define the “who” before the “what.” If you don’t have a clear workflow or ownership in place, you’re not solving a problem, you’re creating another one.

Strong teams aren’t built on resumes alone, they’re built on clarity, accountability, and the ability to navigate ambiguity.

What did you do before starting your own business?

I spent over two decades leading operations and HR across multi-site commercial real estate and professional services organizations, supporting teams, leadership, and day-to-day business functions.

Throughout my career, I managed up to 36 staff, oversaw $52M+ in operating budgets, and led major initiatives including office relocations and operational transformations. My role was often to step into fast-paced environments and bring structure to complexity, streamlining workflows, improving efficiency, and helping teams operate at a higher level.

Looking back, I was doing “Elevate” work long before I officially named it; bringing big-firm operational infrastructure into environments that needed clarity, structure, and scalability.

Today, I bring that same level of structure and discipline to founder-led businesses who need it most.

What made you take the leap to start your own business?

The decision came during a challenging season of burnout, navigating difficult work environments, and being laid off shortly after stepping into a new role.

It forced me to pause and reflect. I realized I could either keep waiting for the “right” opportunity, or I could create it for myself. At some point, you have to stop over-explaining your value and start standing in it.

I had also seen too many founders doing incredible work that still felt heavy because their systems couldn’t keep up. That’s when it clicked and I wanted to be the bridge.

I took the leap to create Elevate as a way to turn over 20 years of experience into something meaningful, helping founders build businesses where growth feels like a reward, not a burden, and where they’re no longer carrying everything on their own.

Do you have any recent wins?

This past year has been about momentum and courage.

I officially launched Elevate Operations Advisory, stepping fully into my expertise and building meaningful conversations with founders who truly need operational support. The name “Elevate” came from a simple belief: When you give people the right structure and support, everything rises - performance, clarity, and confidence.

I’ve had the opportunity to develop proposals I’m incredibly proud of and see firsthand how my experience translates into real business value.

It may not look like a headline win yet but it’s the foundation of something much bigger. And I’ve learned that those are the wins that matter most.

What's one app on your phone that you cannot live without?

Honestly; LinkedIn

LinkedIn is where I built my voice and where I connect with the “quietly resilient” people who inspire me every day. It’s been my primary platform for sharing the Elevate mission and bridging the gap between my corporate experience and the founder community.

Now that I'm a new member, I find that I'm also using Entreprenista daily. It has been equally powerful in a different way. It’s a space for real connection, support, and learning alongside other women building incredible businesses.

These platforms aren’t just apps, they’re my digital front door.

Who are your customers?

My customers are founders and leadership teams at small to mid-sized companies, typically 5 to 200 employees, who have successfully grown their businesses but are now feeling the strain of that growth.

Most are generating between $500K–$25M in revenue and navigating the transition from early success to sustainable scale. They’re driven, capable leaders who find themselves stuck in the “messy middle,” where operations haven’t caught up with success - processes are unclear, teams are stretched, and the founder has become the bottleneck.

I work with those who are ready to move beyond constant firefighting and into a more structured, scalable way of operating leaders who know they have something great but need the operational foundation to support their next level of growth.

What's your top productivity tip?

Clarity creates productivity.

My top tip is to move from reactive to proactive by building a daily operating rhythm. I’ve learned that the most productive people aren’t the busiest, they’re the most structured.

I use time blocking for deep work and treat internal processes like a product. If I find myself doing something more than twice, it gets documented.

Productivity isn’t just about speed, it’s about creating systems that allow you to do great work once, instead of fixing it five times.

What's your favorite business tool?

I’m a big believer in using simple tools well, rather than overcomplicating your tech stack.

Tools like Google Docs, ClickUp, Notion, and Lucidchart are incredibly powerful when used intentionally. They allow you to document processes, visualize workflows, and create real operational clarity.

But more importantly, the tool isn’t the solution, the system behind how you use it is. A well-designed process will always outperform a fancy platform

What's your approach to work-life balance?

I don’t believe in perfect balance; I believe in alignment.

There are seasons where work requires more, and seasons where life does. The key is being intentional about where your energy goes and making sure it aligns with what matters most.

For me, building Elevate is deeply personal, so the lines do blend but I’ve learned to protect my time, my energy, and the space I need to recharge so I can show up fully in both.

How do you avoid burn-out?

I’ve learned that burnout doesn’t come from working hard, it comes from working without structure.

I also believe in what I call “quiet resilience.” As a leader, it’s easy to feel like you have to be the loudest in the room or the one who stays the latest. But in my experience, especially managing large teams, burnout happens when we lose alignment between our effort and our impact.

I prevent it by creating structure, protecting my focus time, and setting clear boundaries. When the system works, you don’t have to carry everything yourself.

And just as importantly, I give myself permission to pause. Those moments of reset are what allow me to keep showing up fully.

What advice do you have for aspiring Entreprenistas?

My advice is simple: don’t wait until you feel “ready.” Clarity doesn’t come from overthinking, it comes from doing.

Start before everything is perfect, but be intentional. Treat your business like it will grow, even in the early stages. Build structure early, document what you do, and create systems that can support you as you scale.

Also, don’t underestimate the power of consistency. Showing up, having conversations, and building relationships will take you further than any perfect strategy.

And most importantly, trust yourself. You don’t need permission to build something meaningful; you just need the courage to start and the discipline to keep going.

Sandy Davis’s journey is a powerful reminder that you don’t need to have everything figured out to start. By choosing to build her own opportunity, she has transformed years of operational expertise into a business that helps founders move from chaos to clarity. Her approach proves that true growth isn’t about doing more, it’s about building the right systems so your business can support you, not the other way around.
