Katy Pierova Made Mimi Beauty for Girls and Their Moms

The South Florida founder and her daughter spent nearly 2 years creating a first skincare routine for girls ages 8 to 13.

Katy Pierova has a marketing degree and a career in South Florida real estate, and some of the best instincts at Mimi Beauty belong to someone much younger. Her daughter was 9 when she became interested in skincare, drawn to anything fun, trendy, and beautiful. Katy was the mom turning over every bottle to read the ingredient list. The gap between their reactions became a company.

Katy Pierova is the co-founder of Mimi Beauty, a mother-daughter skincare brand for girls ages 8 to 13. Together they spent nearly 2 years developing an elevated-first routine that feels exciting to girls without feeling childish. Katy is a member of the Entreprenista League, and since launch she has been learning how to speak to 2 audiences at once.

“We started this because I wanted girls to have something that felt special and truly theirs, without making them feel like they needed to grow up faster,” Katy says.

Made for the in-between years

Mimi Beauty is built for girls who have outgrown little-kid products and have no use yet for adult beauty routines. Katy wanted it to feel elevated, beautiful, and aspirational, because that is what girls are drawn to. The routines stay simple and are formulated for this stage.

“Girls want independence, they want to explore beauty and express themselves, but as moms, we also don’t want them to feel pressure to grow up too quickly,” she says.

Her daughter brings the view of the girl Mimi is made for, and Katy brings the view of the mom deciding what comes home. Their mother-daugher pairing has shaped everything from the products to the packaging.

From South Florida real estate to a physical product

Katy spent most of her career applying her marketing degree to service businesses, particularly South Florida real estate, where sales, negotiation, and relationship-building were her everyday work. Mimi finally gave her the chance to build and market a physical product.

Manufacturing, formulation, packaging, e-commerce, and retail were all new to her. “If I had waited until I understood every part of the business, Mimi probably wouldn’t exist,” she says.

Building Mimi also meant relearning marketing through the lens of a consumer brand. “In a service business, I was often selling my own expertise and relationships,” Katy says. “With a consumer brand, I’m learning how much deeper you have to go.”

The girl asks and her mom decides

The feedback after launch was wonderful. Girls loved the products, moms loved the idea, and Katy thought the hardest part was behind her.

“Then I learned that creating a product people love and building a successful business around it are two completely different jobs,” she says.

Mimi had been speaking mostly to girls, since they use the products and ask for them. In most homes, the mom is the one who buys.

“We still need Mimi to feel cool, exciting and desirable to girls, but we also have to give moms the information, trust and reason to say yes,” she says.

A routine that feels like hers

The sign that Mimi was working came from the girls themselves. They asked for the products and packed them for dance competitions, and moms told Katy their daughters were excited to have a routine of their own.

One message has stayed with her, about a girl who said Mimi made her feel beautiful. “It was such a simple comment, but it stopped me,” Katy says. “What touched me was that she had taken this little routine and turned it into a moment where she felt good about herself.”

For girls busy with school, sports, dance, and friends, Katy sees the routine as a small daily ritual: “two minutes to slow down, look in the mirror and take care of themselves.”

Her daughter’s instinct, Katy’s strategy

“I may have the marketing degree and business experience, but my daughter understands our girl in a way I never could,” Katy says. “Sometimes her instinct is better than my strategy, and I’ve learned to respect that.”

The learning runs both ways, and Katy says that has taken their relationship to a new level.

Dance bags, partnerships, and the road to retail

A community around Mimi is taking shape through dancers, athletes, moms, creators, and in-person activations. Katy and her daughter are developing their next product and starting conversations about partnerships, media, and a path into retail.

Longer term, Katy sees Mimi growing into a beauty and lifestyle brand that shows up in girls’ routines, friendships, and sports and dance bags. “One of the most exciting parts is that as our customer grows, my co-founder is growing right alongside her,” she says.

“Start before you feel completely ready, but stay curious enough to change your mind,” Katy says. “Talk to your customers earlier than feels necessary.”
