How Kewell Consulting Helps Business Owners Use Financial Strategy to Scale With Confidence

November 21, 2025

Please share a brief introduction and your business:

Kewell (pronounced Cue-ell) Consulting is a finance strategy and advisory firm for small business owners who need more than just clean books for compliance. It’s for companies that also need strategy. I offer Fractional CFO and advisory services, as well as DIY bookkeeping support. I help business owners use financials as a tool to build for the future. That may look like mapping out a growth strategy, sharpening pricing, managing risk, or digging into the details of what's holding profitability back. I bring strategy to the decisions that matter most.

Did you always know you wanted to be an entrepreneur?

Not always. I first thought about becoming an entrepreneur about 7-8 years ago, but it was a plan for further in the future.

Take us back to when you launched? What was your marketing strategy?

My marketing strategy when I first launched was word-of-mouth, networking, and social media. If I were to give it a grade… it would be a C. I landed 2 clients via my network. It was effective in the first few months as the newness was exciting news when shared, but it was not lasting, and I did not have a full marketing plan to follow at the time.

What accomplishments are you the most proud of to date in your business?

Taking the leap of faith to step out on my own and believe in myself and this business.

What is one thing you wish you had known when you started your Entreprenista journey?

At the start of the journey, Sales and Marketing will be more important than my experience.

What did you go before starting your own business?

I have over 20 years of experience in Corporate America in a variety of Finance and Accounting roles. From cost accounting to commercial finance, I’ve had a full view of the (financial) life cycle of products from production to launch to exit. I have worked on a number of cross-functional teams. I have experience partnering with Marketing, Sales, Operations, R&D, and Distribution teams.

What made you take the leap to start your own business?

After years in finance leadership roles, I wanted more autonomy over my time and more purpose in my work. While exploring new opportunities, I noticed many roles looked the same and didn’t offer the balance, creativity, or purpose I was looking for. So instead of waiting for the perfect opportunity, I decided to create it. Starting my own business gave me the freedom to shape the kind of work I love and make a real difference for the people I serve. I get to help small and medium-sized businesses not only understand their numbers but use them as a strategic lever for growth.

Many businesses I work with are brilliant at what they do, but overwhelmed by the complexities of aligning financial strategy with their business goals. They're growing fast but operating without a clear financial plan. I saw a need to bring high-level financial strategy to the kinds of businesses that don't yet have a full-time CFO but need the support of one.

This business allows me to show up for my clients in a meaningful way, offering support, insight, and partnership. It also gives me space to show up for my life. The flexibility I've created lets me pursue purpose on both a professional and personal level. I didn't just want a job. I wanted work that works for me, while helping others thrive.

Do you have any recent wins?

Spending a lot of time dancing outside of my comfort zone and working on becoming the person I need to be for this business to be a success.

What's one app on your phone that you cannot live without?

Professionally - LinkedIn. To stay connected with my professional network, share my journey, and build meaningful relationships with other entrepreneurs.

Who are your customers?

Seven-figure service-based, CPG, and e-commerce businesses in need of strategic financial leadership. Owners who want someone to explain what their financial statements mean in non-financial terms. Entrepreneurs who want forecasting that provides visibility into their cash flow and answers the question “Am I going to run out of money?" Owners who want insights on pricing, cost control, and scaling. Business owners who want accountability and someone who will challenge assumptions.

What's your top productivity tip?

Blocking time on my calendar. I block time on my calendar to get things done, not just meetings. This helps me stay focused and aware of what I have to do for the day. When I wake up in the morning and look at my calendar, I see my to-do list and it registers that I have a lot to accomplish that day. This readies my mind and gets me focused for the day.

What's your favorite business tool?

Canva. Although I have a Finance background, I love creativity. Canva allows me to express my creative side when creating marketing tools for my business. At this time, social media marketing is a necessary evil, and Canva is great for creating the assets needed to navigate this space to help drive my business.

What's your approach to work-life balance?

I believe more in work-life balance/harmony. Scheduling time and setting boundaries. I don’t answer phone calls, emails, or texts after a certain time of day. Even if I happen to be working late, I schedule emails and text messages to go out the next day. I don’t send messages at times I would not want to receive them.

How do you avoid burn-out?

Making time to do the things that bring me joy. Even things as small as going for a short walk in the afternoon or stepping outside and sitting by the front door just to feel the sun and inhale the fresh air help reduce stress/burnout.

What advice do you have for aspiring Entreprenistas?

If possible, start nurturing your network before you venture into entrepreneurship.

If you’re coming from corporate America, the relationship with a small business owner is very different from a relationship with a co-worker. You are fostering a relationship with someone who has built something from the ground up and helping them continue to build their dream. This is a deeper more precious relationship.
