Charvi Altamirano Makes Nutrition Advice Work in Real Life

The functional nutritionist behind Rise & Nourish pairs nutrition training with psychology and stays with clients between sessions.

Rise & Nourish is an independent nutrition practice building a food journaling app of its own. Charvi Altamirano is developing it so clients can capture their meals, she can give feedback in real time, and both get a clearer picture of eating patterns to talk through. Her coaching steps into clients' everyday life.

Charvi Altamirano is a functional and integrative nutritionist, a health and wellness coach, and the founder of Rise & Nourish, a practice offering personalized health coaching and nutrition consulting to clients across the United States and internationally. She runs it solo for a little over 2 years, and she is a member of the Entreprenista League.

Her practice centers on one gap: “What draws me to this work is the gap between receiving health advice and knowing how to apply it,” Charvi says.

The person behind every food choice

Charvi brings together training in functional and integrative nutrition and an education in psychology. Nutrition gives her a framework for examining food patterns and how they relate to digestive, metabolic, and hormonal health. She treats the body as an interconnected system, looking at how nutrition, sleep, stress, movement, and daily habits influence one another.

“Psychology informs my attention to the person making those choices: their beliefs, stress, motivation, relationship with food, and the reasons a recommendation may be difficult to follow,” she says. “My work begins with understanding both.”

Take an evening eating habit that keeps coming back. “Simply prescribing a stricter dinner misses the opportunity to understand what drives that pattern and address it,” she says.

Her motto? “Understand the person. Connect the dots. Make change possible.”

A calmer relationship with food

One client came to Charvi with prediabetes and 2 competing fears: developing diabetes, and feeling unwell if she waited to eat. She often reached for whatever was available before she was hungry, worried she would become weak, tired, or develop an upset stomach. Food choices were becoming a source of anxiety.

They built regular, satisfying meals while exploring what drove that urgency. Charvi helped her recognize when she needed nourishment and when she was eating in anticipation of something she feared might happen. Together they developed routines she could trust, then adjusted them as she learned what worked for her.

Over time the client began enjoying cooking, planning meals with confidence, and becoming comfortable with foods she used to worry about. Her insulin resistance and blood sugar markers improved, and she reported better energy. “The most meaningful shift was that she could make food decisions with less fear,” Charvi says.

The work that happens beyond the appointment

One of Charvi’s biggest challenges has been explaining the value of deeply individualized work while building a sustainable business around it. “Much of what makes my coaching valuable happens beyond the appointment: preparing for a session, reviewing what a client has shared, connecting patterns, developing practical recommendations, and following up thoughtfully,” she says.

Making the work visible, and setting expectations about the time and commitment real change takes, has been part of her growth as a founder. As a solo founder, she has learned that clear boundaries and a well-defined process keep her care consistent. She wants Rise & Nourish to reach more people while preserving the depth of attention that makes the work valuable.

A new website, an app in the works, and better bloodwork

Her latest milestones are launching the Rise & Nourish website and developing a food journaling app for her clients. The website gives the practice a dedicated home, and she keeps refining the app around the practical needs that come up in her work with clients.

“I began to feel ‘This is working’ when clients reported changes across several parts of their lives: improvements in bloodwork, more energy, feeling physically better, and a shift in how they understood and cared for themselves,” Charvi says.

The mental changes meant the most. Watching clients grow more confident in their food choices and less overwhelmed by their health showed her the value of pairing nutrition education with ongoing coaching.

Healthcare partnerships, workshops, and small groups

Over the next few years, Charvi plans to grow Rise & Nourish through personalized coaching, healthcare partnerships, workshops, and small-group programs, while preserving the individual attention at the heart of the practice.

Joining the Entreprenista League changed how she sees her own experience. “I wish I’d known I didn’t need to wait until my business felt more established to join,” she says. “As a new member, I’m realizing that I already have experience worth sharing.”

For founders who are starting out, her advice is practical: “Start with work you can stand behind, and let real conversations with customers shape what you build,” she says. “Learn to explain your value clearly, protect the time it takes to deliver it well, and build relationships before you need something from them.”
